How Dirty Air Filters Hurt Your Commercial HVAC System

Dirty air filters in your commercial building can be a major problem for customers and employees. South Carolina residents know how important air conditioning is to comfort, so having an efficient HVAC system in the greater Charleston area is essential for success. At Arctic Air Inc., South Carolina’s trusted commercial HVAC company, we understand the significance of clean filters in maintaining system efficiency. With over 30 years of air conditioning repair and maintenance experience, we’ve seen how dirty filters can damage your AC system.

Dirty AC filters pose severe risks to your commercial air conditioning unit, compelling the fans to work harder to maintain airflow. This strain amplifies energy consumption and heightens the potential for equipment breakdowns. The accumulation of dust and debris leads to reduced air quality within your property, which can exacerbate respiratory issues in everybody in the building. What a liability! Neglecting commercial HVAC filter maintenance negatively impacts your business by making customers uncomfortable, causing expensive repairs, and contributing to health issues. That’s why you need the help of a local air quality technician.

For handling dirty filters, we offer comprehensive AC service options. First, our HVAC contractors thoroughly assess the extent of system contamination. We can restore functionality to mildly soiled components with cleaning, but heavily soiled or irreparable components get replaced. We also offer regular filter maintenance to maintain performance and comfort in your commercial building. With regular servicing, you can focus on your business.

HIGH ELECTRIC BILLS? UNCOMFORTABLE?

High Electric Bills? Uncomfortable home?

money
Overpaying the Electric and Gas Company is like burning your money.

Are high electric bills finding their way into your mailbox? Even worse, are those bills eating up the money in your checking account? Is your home uncomfortable? Do you have to always add a “shot” of freon to your ac system at the beginning of every season?

If you answered, “yes!” to any of the questions above, there is something that can be done, but there isn’t a “one size fits all” solution.

Wait a second…. what are we talking about here? Your AC System, heat pump and/or furnace. These “applicances” can eat up electricity if they are not properly maintained and serviced. Quit overpaying the electric company!

What Can You Do?

The real questions come down to “What can I do?” and “How can I to proceed?” This is pretty easy, though it can seem overwhelming… I would recommend moving forward by scheduling a preventive maintenance check. Let’s see what is going on with your current system. Is it low on refrigerant? Are there some issues with fans or blower motors? Weak capacitors or contactors? Is there another problem that may be zapping the efficiency of your ac? Is there something wrong with the duct work? Have a professional take a look.

This is why there isn’t a one size fits all. Your situation might be similar to someone else’s but we like to make sure the have the right solution specifically for you.

Walterboro AC maintenance

It is always a little scary to look at what it might take to get your ac system working properly. The good news is that we are here to help. We will walk with you through what can be done to make your home or business more comfortable, to help reduce electric bills, and to help with the decision making process by providing you an assessment of your ac system issues, and what it will take to resolve them.

If you decide that it makes sense, we can make the necessary repair, adjustments or recommendations to meet your objectives. Sometimes, a repair is the only thing that is necessary. Sometimes, the best option is to put in a new system.

Pro’s of installing a new system

Here are some of the pro’s of installing in a new system.

  • Better efficiency (uses less electricity)
  • Lower electric bills (less money for more comfort)
  • Higher level of comfort (better sleep)
  • Less likelihood of breakdowns
  • Peace of mind (especially during the extremes of summer and winter)
  • Rebates for qualifying systems (Dominion Electric Customers)
  • 10 year parts warranties (included at no extra cost by the manufacturer)
  • 10 year labor warranties (available at addition cost)

Preventive or Preventative … Does it matter?

Preventive or Preventative … Does it matter?

? Special offer at the bottom… check it out before you leave this page! ?

Let’s discuss Preventive Maintenance, but first…

Welcome to the Greater Charleston Area! Whether you are a native Charlestonian, a transplant for many years, or if you have just moved into the area, you will notice that we have something special here!

Spring flowers
Spring flowers

Yes, we live in a beautiful area! Yes, we have great beaches! Yes, we have great food! Yes, we have a lot of history! Yes, we have great activities for people of all ages! AND, YES, we have YELLOWISH GREEN SNOW (aka, pollen)falling everywhere! You are welcome! Please feel free to take in as much as you can handle, as it is all FREE! LOL!

In addition to adding many new wonderful people to our population, I am sure you have noticed a lot of different faces and a ton of new accents. We all have different ways of saying the same thing, even though the words are the same.

So the question is … do you say PRE-VEN-TIVE or PRE-VENT-A-TIVE? Either way, both are correct and both are clearly understood.

What the heck…

You may be asking… “What the heck does this have to do with air conditioning and heating?” Well, I am glad you asked! Whether you say preventive or preventative, the bottom line is that your air conditioner (ac), heat pump and furnace need maintenance. This is a hard time of the year for you ac system. In the morning, temperatures are lower and you may need a little heat to get you out of the warm bed you are sleeping. Then, the afternoon sun hits, and everything warms up. You start perspiring (glistening for our southern ladies…LOL) a bit, and you decide that “this is not working for me! I need some AC!!”. So now, you flip your ac system from heat to cool. And then the routine starts again. At least for a few more weeks… maybe a month or two.

Give the give of Preventive Maintenance…

Spring is a great time to give your air conditioning system(s) the gift of preventive (preventative) maintenance, and to give yourself a little peace of mind. A preventive maintenance check up will allow one of our professionally trained HVAC technicians to check your entire ac system over and to clean the coils. Not too big of a deal, right? That is incorrect, it is a big deal.

Preventative maintenance checks are critical for your ac. Just like preventive maintenance is for your automobiles. You wouldn’t drive your car, truck, or SUV for 100,000 miles without changing the oil or checking the other critical components of that vehicle. The same thought process needs to be applied to your ac.

Preventive maintenance allows a skilled HVAC technician to check critical components of your ac system. This helps to insure that you are getting the most out of your system. So, what does “getting the most out of your system mean?”

Get the most…

What does “getting the most out of your system mean?” Well, I am glad that you asked!!

Severely clogged coils!

It means:

? Getting the longest life out of your ac system
? Getting the most efficiency out for your ac system
? Saving money on electricity
? Helping to prevent break downs in the extremes of the season
? Increasing comfort in your home
? Keeping stress down
? Keeping irritability down by maintaining your ideal temperature
? Keeping work performance up due to a good nights sleep
? Reducing the cost of ownership of a system by repairing small problems before they become larger ones
? Being able to keep your windows and doors closed so that you don’t have to endure the “yellow snow”

Spring 2021 Preventive Maintenance Special… $79/system

All of this to say, Arctic Air has a Spring Special, just for you! Mention that you saw the $79 special for Preventive/Preventative Maintenance on the internet. We will send out one of our skilled hvac technician and have them go over your ac system and get it in tip top shape. You will be ready for the heat of Summer!

This was a RED MUSTANG… Now look at what the Yellow Snow has done! LOL!

Any issues that are found, will be reported to you and you will have the choice of how you would like to proceed. We are a service company and our goal is to maintain and keep your current ac system running. However, if it doesn’t make sense to make repairs, we can do system replacements with current, up-to-date, energy efficient equipment.

UPDATED!! COVID 19 – How Ionic Air Purifiers Can Help!

UPDATED!! COVID 19 – How Ionic Air Purifiers Can Help!

Protect your family and SAVE money at the same time! $200 $300 off (updated discount from last year) each Air Oasis Nano! See below.

You would be hard pressed to speak to anyone that has not heard of COVID 19 or the Coronavirus. This has not only flooded the news but it has infiltrated our personal lives, it has disrupted many businesses, and government activities. It almost feels like we have been put on restriction as when we were teenagers. Please don’t get me wrong, I understand completely why these steps are being taken. I read that “we will never know how well we prevented the spread of this virus, but if we do nothing, we will surely realize the effects of doing nothing”.

To watch the spread of this disease, is to show how much of a global economy that we have, and how much international relationships play in our world today.

I read an article that highlighted 19 people who went to a large conference and picked up the conronavirus. Ten people stayed in China, others flew back to France, the UK, and Italy. They brought the Coronavirus to their respective countries. As of 3 days ago, the virus has spread to over 150 countries (Businessinsider.com).

But what can we do in our homes to help contain the spread of this virus?

Of course there are the basics …

wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water…

cover your mouth and nose if you cough or sneeze

avoid close contact with those who are sick …

• put distance between yourself and others (6ft is recommended) …

do not touch your face, mouth or nose with unwashed hands

stay home if you are sick….

Here is a complete guide to preventing the spread of the COVID 19 (Coronavirus)… https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prepare/prevention.html.

How Ionic Air Purifiers Work

“Ionization is a process that blankets an entire room or home, addressing viruses both in the air and on surfaces. It is a far more thorough and superior approach to home health than filtration-only systems. Filters are passive: they only treat what they trap in the filter media.” (Source: https://info.airoasis.com/blog/ionic-air-purifiers-and-covid-19 )

Another answer to helping prevent the spread of viruses is air purification. One solution that we have been offering at Arctic Air, Inc. is the Air Oasis Nano. The Nano helps to destroy mold, mildew, bacteria and viruses. Here is a short video to help explain how the Air Oasis Nano works. (Click here)

Ionic air purifiers, such as the Air Oasis Nano, have a proven track record against viruses similar to COVID 19 (ie CoV-2 – also known as SARS).

Do you want to know about the science and some more of the details behind this technology? Here is a video recording that explains it better than I ever could begin to explain. (Click here)

Would you like to protect your family? (YES) Would you like an easy way to clean your air through your central air conditioning system? (YES) Can you see the value of having whole house air purification? (YES)

I have had a couple of surgeries since the end of December, and I had a little bit of time learn how to put together a “sketch” video. So, here is the first one that I am releasing to the public.

If you are having any issues with your heating, please call us as soon as possible. We want to make sure that your family is not freezing cold.

Take a look at the video below… I hope you enjoy it!

Carbon Monoxide … a “silent killer”!

Carbon Monoxide … a “silent killer”!

Sounds dramatic, right? Maybe not so much! Please don’t get carbon monoxide poisoning confused with the smell of propane nor something else that is burning.

Carbon Monoxide is labeled as a “silent killer” because it is an odorless, colorless, flammable and tasteless gas. As humans, we cannot even tell when we are around this gas. But make no mistake, it is very dangerous and deadly.

How is carbon monoxide gas produced?

gas logs

According to Wikipedia, “Carbon monoxide is produced from the partial oxidation of carbon-containing compounds; it forms when there is not enough oxygen to produce carbon dioxide (CO2), such as when operating a stove or an internal combustion engine in an enclosed space.

If you have anything that burns a fuel (gas, wood, etc.), carbon monoxide is formed. This includes gas stoves, gas ovens, wood burning stoves, wood and gas burning fireplaces, gas clothes dryers, gas water heaters, etc.

What can you do to protect you and your family?

The solution is very easy. Purchase a carbon monoxide detector. This device can detect and alert you of a carbon monoxide leak. This relatively inexpensive device can save lives. A carbon monoxide alarm gives you an early warning of a potential disaster.

In a situation where carbon monoxide is coming into your home, every second counts. Most alarms provide you and your family with an early warning to escape. When the alarm goes off, do not delay, get your family to fresh air.

What does carbon monoxide do to your bodies?

Carbon monoxide basically displaces the oxygen in your blood and deprives your body of oxygen. In the most basic of terms, it suffocates you. This can happen very quickly and without warning!

Where should carbon monoxide detectors be placed?

First Alert recommends that you have carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your home. They also recommend that they be put outside of every bedroom door, sleeping area and common areas (for extra protection). Don’t forget that in some states, they are to be placed in “mandatory” locations (check with your state’s or local governing agency for details that you may be required to install them.

You have a carbon monoxide detector … how often do you check it?

Another important item to remember is to check your carbon monoxide detectors every month, and to change the batteries every 6 months. Carbon monoxide detectors have a useful life of 5-7 years. Be sure to check the detector that you are purchasing for the details.

Where do I get such a device?

These are readily available at your local Walmart, hardware stores, and sometimes you can even pick one up at the grocery store. You may also want to check Amazon, if you don’t feel up to going to one of the big box stores.

With a little device, lives can be saved. If you have any wood burning, gas burning or any other type of burning, please consider purchasing these devices.

How can Arctic Air help?

Do you have a gas furnace that heats your home? If so, call us today (843-821-0937), or request service online (www.arcticairinc.com/service-request) to have your furnace inspected for possible issues with the heat exchanger.
