Safety Tips for a SAFE 4th of July!

Safety Tips for a SAFE 4th of July!

fireworksIt is amazing how time flies!  The 4th of July is almost here, which means half of 2014 has already past.  It is so nice that the 4th is on a Friday.  This means a 3 day weekend!

Since half the year has past, Friday will be a great time to get together with friends and family. With those gatherings, I am sure that there will be some great food made and consumed. After that, as the day goes on and the sun begins to fall, the sky will light up with fireworks.

Fireworks are as American as barbecue, hamburgers, Main Street Parades and apple pie. Nancy Blogin, President of the National Council on Fireworks Safety, says that most fireworks related accidents could be prevented if some basic safety steps would have been followed.

fireworks-safetyHere are some of the National Council on Fireworks Safety Tips for a Safe 4th of July…

  1. Parents and caretakers should always closely supervise teenagers if they are using fireworks.
  2. Do not allow young children to handle or use fireworks.
  3. Do not use fireworks indoors.  Fireworks are only to be used outside.
  4. If you are shooting fireworks, ALWAYS have water ready.
  5. Read caution labels on fireworks before lighting them.
  6. Some states, cities, towns, municipalities prohibit the use of fireworks.  Know and obey local laws. If it is illegal where you live, do not use them.
  7. Do not use alcohol and fireworks. They do not mix!
  8. Whenever using fireworks wear eye protection (safety glasses).
  9. Never try to relight a “dud”.  The best thing to do is to wait 20 minutes, then soak them in water.
  10. Be sure to soak used fireworks in water before putting them in an outdoor trash can.
  11. DO NOT USE homemade fireworks, or illegal explosives… It is a matter of life and death… they can kill you.

THANK YOU FOR THE POSITIVE FEEDBACK!

Thank you for the positive feedback!

raisinWe would like to say “Thank You” for all of the positive feedback that we have received recently!

Yelp.com is a great way to post positive (and negative) comments for companies that you have dealt (with). This is a FREE place to leave those comments, and it is a great way to check out a company that you are planning to do business.

Here are some of those comments:

  • This has been the most honest company we have dealt with.  Always on time, they go out of the way to help us out.  Very nice dealing with all of them.  Nice and honest a great combination. –Rhonda M., Hanahan SC
  • Our church (which has many HVAC needs) has used Arctic Air for several years.Compared to other companies we have used in the past this company has given us above average customer service without fail and their prices are very competitive. We’re keeping them! –Frank C., Charleston SC
  • Always courteous, always follows through when they’re supposed to be there. Very quick to respond when there’s an emergency. Stacy is awesome at keeping everybody on track, including myself in getting my routine AC checks scheduled. I highly recommend them! Carolyn B., Charleston SC
  • I noticed that Arctic Air receives all 5 stars in it’s ratings here.  There’s a reason for that…..they do an excellent job and they actually CARE about the people they help.  In today’s society you can’t pay someone enough money to truly care about customers.  Their professionalism and integrity make Arctic Air the only HVAC company I ever use or recommend and one of THE BEST companies in the tri-county area.  Family owned business for 20 years!  Thank you for always taking care of me and my real estate clients!! Dianne R., Summerville SC

We know that “Word of Mouth” advertising is extremely important to the success of any business.  We work hard everyday to treat everyone fairly and with respect. In addition, we understand that social media (ie, Facebook, Google+ Twitter, Insta-gram, etc) is today’s “Word of Mouth”.

If you have had a great experience with Arctic Air, please share that experience on one of those platforms.  If you have had a “not so great experience”, share that with us.  Call us at 843-821-0937. We need to know where we have failed, so that we can become better!

Please note: it is easy to get upset with a company and in the heat of the moment leave very negative feedback.  Try to give yourself time to cool down. Secondly, I would recommend that you call the company and let them know what is going on.  There are a lot of times when problems can be resolved with a quick call.  Sometimes, the owner, manager or even, the employee does not know that there is a problem. Give the company a chance to make it right.

We are constantly looking for opportunities to become better at what we do.  This includes our work, our personal lives, and our dealings with our customers.

We appreciate you! Thank you for your support! Thank you for your positive feedback! Thank you for your business!

Check out YELP.com to add your positive feedback, or to check out companies in the local area.

The entire team at Arctic Air Inc would like to say “Thank You” to the Men and Women who have served and died for the United States of America. Freedom is certainly not free… it comes at a high price.

In addition to those that lost their lives serving the U.S., we would like to express our thanks to the families of this brave heroes. We can only try to understand the sacrifices that have been made by you.

May each of us reflect fondly on those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Energy Savings Tips!

Here are a couple of energy savings tips to help you save money on your electric bill.

money1. When it is cool in the evening, turn off your air conditioner and open your windows while sleeping. When you get up in the morning, close the windows and blinds.  This will help trap the cool air inside your home.

2. Install window treatments that will help prevent the transfer of heat.  With the hot sun beating down on your windows, the heat is magnified.  These blinds and curtains will help keep some of that heat out of your home.

I wanted to keep this short and sweet.  I will add some more tips in the next couple of days.

I hope everyone has a great week!

What a weekend!

What a weekend! It was absolutely beautiful here in Summerville, SC.

sticky fingersOur company picnic was perfect! All of the planning that Staci did paid off. We had 4 different inflatable games for the younger ones. We had food catered by Sticky Fingers, Jo Lopez made her amazing banana pudding, and we had fruit and vegetable trays from Publix. Needless to say, no one should have left hungry.

All of the children that came were so well behaved and friendly. Mom’s and Dad’s, whatever you are doing, keep it up. Your children were so respectful and kind to each other. It really made for a wonderful day.

One thing is for sure, the games were extremely fun for all. The Wrecking Ball game was tons of fun. Each competitor would balance themselves on a rectangular platform (that was a workout in itself!). Then, the wrecking ball was suspended in the middle. The object was to throw the wrecking ball at the other competitors and knock them off of there platform.

In addition to the Wrecking Ball, there was a shooting game. The object of the game was to knock down the gate with these nerf style golf balls. This was a lot of fun!

For those who wanted to show off their basketball skills, we had hoops set up.

Finally, there was a standard jumping castle. I haven’t heard the reports yet, but I can imagine that the kids that played these games were wore out by the end of the day.

Thanks to John and Valarie for funding this event! A special thanks to Staci for planning this event! Any thanks to everyone else because you are a GREAT TEAM!

YEAH! The Weekend Is here!

PicnicWow, what an amazing week! We have been running like crazy.  I cannot say enough about the crew that we have here at Arctic Air.  Our service technicians certainly deserve a pat on the back.  I think all of them have worked at least 12 – 14 hours a day.

Here is what one of our newest customers said,

“Wow, I … felt so bad for your colleague who was there so late, they were both wonderful!… Please thank everyone who worked so hard on this yesterday for me!” -LB, Summerville

So, to Chuck, Patrick, Troy and Craig, we would like to say, “Thank You”.  You guys help make Arctic Air such a success.  We are very proud of how you represent Arctic Air and yourselves.

In addition, the only way this company is able to operate at the high level it does, is because of teamwork.  So, I must also mention Valarie, John, Staci, Becky and Monica. Each person makes such a difference at Arctic Air. Thanks for making this a great place to work!

We count ourselves as being blessed. Yes, it is sometimes stressful, but nonetheless, we are blessed to have work, and the ability to take care of our families.

jump castleThis weekend, we are going to honor our employees by having a picnic at the shop.  I say picnic, but that might not accurately describe the festivities.  Staci has ordered food, jump castles, and other games for the day.  She has really worked hard at putting this together.

This will be a great day to take a break and enjoy the food and fellowship with family, friends and co-workers.  Again, I cannot say how blessed I feel that we are.

I will update everyone with some pictures from the event.

Enjoy your weekend!

Mike

Happy Valentine’s Day…and the weekend is here!

Happy Valentine’s Day… and the weekend is here!

happy-valentines-dayHappy Valentine’s Day everyone!  Guys, I hope that you aren’t like me…waiting until the last minute is not the best game plan.  If you are like me, then I hope you get to Walgreen’s early…that is before all of the Valentine’s Day cards, chocolate and flowers are gone.

If College Park Road is on your way home, you may want to stop by the Bird’s Nest Florist and pick up some flowers.  Sandra usually has a selection of arrangement ready to go.

morris islandStaci and I are going to celebrate Valentine’s Day tomorrow. We are hoping to find a restaurant near the ocean.  We definitely need a break and we enjoy being on the beach.  I cannot wait to get away for a “mini-vacation”.

On a side note, I have heard that several of my friends and customers are still without power.  I know that it is cold and uncomfortable.  I encourage you to hang in there, and try to make the best of it.  If you have children, take some time to play a board game.  Spend some time with them.  One thing is for sure, there will be a day when they won’t be around nearly as much.  Enjoy them while you have them.

It looks like warmer days are ahead… I am definitely ready for spring!

Well, I am going to sign off… enjoy the weekend!

T.G.I.F. – Yeahhh!

Hello everyone… the work day is coming to an end, and the weekend is at our doorstep.

I wanted to help all of my male friends out.  If you are in a relationship, you need to start planning for Valentine’s Day.  Yep, Valentine’s Day is one week away, and it is on a Friday.  With Valentine’s Day falling on a Friday, I would imagine restaurants are going to be booked to full capacity.

balloons by bird's nest floristOne year, I forgot to make reservations.  Staci and I ended up going to a restaurant here in Summerville.  They were packed but said they could squeeze us in.  We were given a table.  The table was close to a large group. As we were waiting for our food to arrive, a couple sat down at the table with us.  We looked at each other, but not a word was said.  This couple thought that we were part of the large group that was dining at the table next to us.  Finally, someone from the large group waved them over. They got up and NEVER said a word! Now that was funny!

Also, I would like to mention that you may need to call your local florist.  Don’t use an 800 number, call the florist direct (hint, hint – 843-797-7673).  When you use a 1-800 (or other toll free service), you don’t really know what you are going to get.  Support your local businesses.

Personally, I have usedbirds nest florist Bird’s Nest Florist.  Sandra and her staff always do a good job for me, and Staci is always excited about the delivery. Usually, Sandra has a little chocolate heart, or something like that, to add to the flowers if you order early for Valentine’s Day.

I also like to call personally, so that I can tell the florist what I want in the arrangement.  Of course, I don’t know what the flowers are… I usually tell Sandra that I want something tropical and she does her thing. Staci and I are both surprised!

On a side note… don’t make excuses as to why you don’t like Valentine’s Day…. the day isn’t about us.  It is about our loved ones.  You know… the ones that put up with us all year long.  If you don’t want to buy into the commercialism of the day, then make something or do something.  Just make that person feel special… because they are special!

As always, we are available on the weekends if you have any issues or emergencies.  Just call 843-821-0937 or submit a service request online.

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend.

Good News…

Hello Everyone and Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

MLKIt looks like today is going to be a beautiful Monday!  As I was think about what to write here, I started looking at some of the headlines in the news.  I scanned through and found many news articles that I could mention, but they were all “bad” news.  It was actually hard to find a great deal of the “good” news.

[stextbox id=”warning”]”Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'” Martin Luther King, Jr.[/stextbox].

So, I figured, I would mention some of the “good” news that is going on, rather than focusing on the bad stuff.  Here are some of the headlines that I found….

  1. The City of Charleston gives $4.5 million in grants to arts groups.  Some of the groups that are benefiting are the Gibbes Museum, the Charleston Museum, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, the Charleston Wine and Food Festival, the South Carolina Wildlife Exposition, and Spoleto Festival USA.  In addition, 30 other groups are also receiving grants.
  2. A crew of 24 is saved from a sinking ship in the West Pacific.
  3. Google contact lens could be an option for diabetics.  These contacts measure sugar through the moisture in the eyes.  This will hopefully keep diabetics from having to stick their fingers with needles to measure sugar levels.
  4. The Denver Bronco and Seattle Seahawks are heading to the Super Bowel. (Of course this could be construed as “good” or “bad” news depending on your favorite team.)
  5. Fort Braggs Soldiers are going to train with SC Deputies in Columbia.  This is to make sure deputies are prepared for many circumstances that could arise, and to make sure they are prepared to protect citizens in varying circumstances.
  6. Williams Memorial Elementary School in St. George, SC has 720 students in pre-K to 5th grade, and has been rated “Good” and “Excellent” marks by receiving the Palmetto Silver and Gold Awards.

As today rolls on, just think about some of the “good” things that are in your life.  It is easy to focus on the negative, but take time to search out the positive. You might be surprised at what you find!

[stextbox id=”warning”]”The time is always right to do what is right.” -Martin Luther King, Jr.[/stextbox]

Today, we remember the dream that inspired and motivated so many to work hard, and to make that dream a reality.

On a side note, please keep in mind that the weather is going to get into the 20’s at night here in Charleston for the next few days.  We have several nights like this ahead.  Be sure that your pipes are insulated, and take necessary precautions to prevent frozen pipes (ie, let water drip from faucets).  Our last blog entry (Cold Night Ahead…) has complete information on this topic.

May your MLK day be blessed!

We are now on Twitter!

Hello Everyone!  I know that we are a little behind the times when it comes to social media, but we are working hard to move into the 21st Century. Our next step is Twitter!  I have set up our Twitter account … @ArcticAirInc .

I am a bit overwhelmed, and not quite sure how to use Twitter, however, I am going to work hard at becoming good at it.

If anyone has any suggestions on “items of interest”, “local events”, “heating or air conditioning questions”, etc., please send me a message or email (arcticairmike@gmail.com).

I am going to throw in a couple of hashtags, but I am not sure if I am even using them correctly.  #airconditioning, #charlestonsc, #blog

If anyone can offer any advice, I am open to that to!
