We know that the news of having to replace your current AC / Heating system is a tough pill to swallow. So often, we forget about the green or beige box that sits outside all year long. Then, the extremes of the season begin to hit and that faithful box just gives up. It cannot go any longer. It has sprung leaks in the evaporator coil, or somewhere else.
The good news is that the new units on the market today are so energy efficient that you wind up paying less to the electric company. Most units that are about 10 years old may have started at around 8 SEER. After time, the efficiency of that unit might be a 5 or 6 SEER at best. Today, the minimum SEER rating is a 13! You will definitely be able to see a difference in the kilowatt usage in your electric bill. This, of course, translates into lower electric bills throughout the year.
